Title: A Light of Hope in Darkness
Description
This is a wooden sculpture of native guardian figure (Jangseung) for indoor decoration, hoping for the North to overcome the scars of the Korean War and enjoy the freedom and peace of the South.
~About the Sculpture
#The top of the figure has reproduced the village guardian (The Defender) of Seocheon-ri, Namwon for freedom and peace.
#The figure in the middle has reproduced the guardian of Burwesa Temple of Naju (The Guardian of Heaven) for the peace of North and South.
#The bottom of the figure has reproduced the village guardian (The Stone Guardian) of Daechi-ri, Muan-gun with the smiling face of a wizard in peace and freedom.
The topmost and bottommost parts of the figure are Mugunghwa, the national flower of Korea, to add the meaning of hope for endurance and peace in North and South Koreas.
~About the Colors
# The colors represent the four directions on the national flag of Korea. The colors show the division of south (red) and north (black) by a line crossing from the east (blue) to the west (white), hoping for the flower of freedom and peace (Mugunghwa) in the south to bloom in the land of black (death) in the north.
